The Art(s) of Advocacy
Hi everyone,
So although Arts Advocacy Day 2011 is just on the other side of this weekend, I use the term "advocacy" with some hesitation, as lobbying representatives is just one form of it. In addition to connecting artists within and without their own disciplines, I also try to highlight events that could be another form of advocacy, should you decide to attend.
In this case, we have a space that is the result of an organization which advocates for the arts by providing affordable live/work space, a ceremony which not only highlights theatre but bring us together in a way that our schedule rarely allows, an event dedicated to presenting new work, and a campaign of awareness which raises the profile of a very present and diverse dance scene.

Artspace Lofts Apps Accepted
So on Monday, April 4 at 8:30am, Artspace and CuDC will begin to accept Artspace Applications. Their recommendation? Even if you're on the fence about whether you do or don't want to apply, do so anyway. You can always drop out of the process if you change your mind, but it's harder going the other way. If you end up in line that morning, try and say hello, as I'll definitely be there.

Helen Hayes Awards
It's that time of the year!! Awards aside, the part that's made it worth it the times I've attended has always been the party. Drinks, music, and friends you haven't seen since that show you did back then, at that theatre? Can't imagine it being anymore than a continued recipe for a good time.

Oh, one more thing. Spread the word, as the membership requirement is expanding to include Twitter. Up until now, you had to be a member of the FB group to be included in the bulletin and considered for Moving Forward, on the DC PLACE. Tell your friends, if they don't want to join the group, they can just follow http://twitter.com/dc_pal. The only caveat is that you still have to be a person, not an organization, to be considered a member.
I think that's all for now. Until next time,
JR
