Bulletin 4: Early Edition

"Summer has come and passed"

Hope everyone had a fun, fulfilling, and fabulous summer. It's September, which is Classical Music Month (I know, you learn something new everyday). If you know any other Performing Arts related months or days, let me know. Also, I wanted to get this bulletin out early because of the Page-to-Stage Festival at the Kennedy Center, starting on Saturday.

-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-

I know there's at least one friend involved in Step Up 2 right now, and I thought I'd try adding a film section in the Description of the group, to add any movie (mainstream or independent) credits that our members have under their belt. So message me or email the group address.

-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-

A lot of us are back to school, whether we're studying or teaching, but I thought we could wish all the recent high school graduates who are starting their college lives, "merde". Also I added a major wherever one was listed, so if you already declared and just didn't add it to your profile, then let me know and I'll include it in next month's bulletin:

Amanda Bloss and Glen North at JMU

Clair Eccles at Harvard

Emily Fish at Columbia University

Leah Flamm and Garrett Hennigan at WashU

Claire Holman at Virginia Tech

Marissa Joseph at SUNY Purchase *Dance Major*

Michael Kelly and Ashley Zielinski at American

Corri Oster at Elon

Kate Page at Indiana

Laura Semple at Maryland *Theatre Major*

Good luck too, all of you '07 college graduates...now that it's really sinking in classes aren't starting again (unless you're in Grad school, of course)

-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-

There's a topic on the group page titled "Stage Managing for Dummies"; throw in your two cents :-)

-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-

Unless you recently joined, as you can see there's been a bit of a lull in the performance listings. I'm sure that'll change now that schools and seasons are kicking back in, but please let me know of any productions you're involved in, even if you're working in the office for a theatre, help cast the show, etc. And if you're my friend and invite me to an event page you've created, if there's a cast list I'll automatically check it with DC PAL members and put all the info up on our page.

Also, I gotta warn you; once a group grows larger than 1000 members, messages can no longer be sent to everyone. So, as thrilled as I am that in three and a half months, this group's almost reached 600 people, eventually I won't be able to send out these bulletins. This doesn't mean I'll stop putting them together. There'll be two alternatives that will be available: the first, I'll simply post each bulletin in the discussion session, and the second, if you email the group address with the header "Bulletin Subscription", I'll start sending out the monthly bulletins and any special ones via email once this group passes 1000. The usual clauses apply in that I will not disclose or exchange your email address to anyone or anything else.

Just in case you didn't know, anyone can add photos to the group; just make sure they're at least somewhat relevant. And definitely use the Post Item function on the group page to share Performing Arts related articles, reviews, etc.

And just for fun, check it out: our group has a street address!! No, it's not 'real'. Yes, I geeked out a li'l bit. :-)

Hope everyone enjoyed their summer!!

JR

P.S. no, I never actually made it to the beach...

Hey everyone,

Is it really August already??

To anyone and everyone who was a part of the 2nd Capital Fringe Festival, hope you had as much fun as I did :-)

Oh, and congrats to the cast and crew of Godspell and Refer Madness on your extended runs!!

-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-

Now this might be the precursor to another section, but there are several workshops/classes/intensives that I've been asked to mention.

One of them is Joy of Motion's Broadway Dance Camp, for grades 3rd - 12th. There are still plenty of spots open, especially if you're going to be in high school in the fall (you'd also have me as your assistant through all the classes).

Another is a Laban class that one of my favorite teachers from UMD, Karen Bradley, will be teaching. I put up all the info as on the Discussion Board. You can email her as well about the course at kbradley@wam.umd.edu

-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-

I just hope I get a chance to go the beach at least once before the summer's over, and if you've been already...please don't tell me :-) (*cough* Ragtime cast)

Oh, and there's a chance that if enough people are interested, I will also start sending out the same monthly bulletin to email, through the DC PAL gmail address, or even a weekly one. Let me know what you think.

And keep me updated with what you're doing. I know as school starts for a lot of you still in college and high school, there will be plenty more performances (like Urinetown at AU...), showcases, and other events going on. If you want it listed in the "Recent News" section, just send me the info, let me know you're in it and/or start a topic on the Discussion Board.

On that note, enjoy the rest of the summer,

JR

That being said, I will try to continue to start off the bulletin with at least a couple of blurbs about a timely event, festival, etc. that's particular to that month, or some other random bit of Performing Arts related info not up on the page.

Hope everyone has a fantastic and safe Fourth of July!!

Until next time,
