Bulletin 45: Groups vs Pages (and a survey)

Hi everyone,

Wow, so not only did Phil not see his shadow, but there's a whole lot going on in the next month or so.

Now, statement of the obvious: you are receiving this message because you're a member of the group, and thanks!! Especially if you know me, I appreciate you indulging what was initially just a quick way to keep up with what everyone was up to, and started almost 4 years ago (YIKES!!).

And while there is a Fan Page for DC PAL, there are different benefits to joining/liking each one. Fans don't get the bi-monthly bulletins, but they do get a monthly event page listing everything happening that month, which they can RSVP too and invite others. However it just lists events, not the extra sum'n, sum'n I try to add to the bulletins:

Anyway, just thought I'd share. Here's what's going on this month:

*A Survey
*AGMA Relief Fund Benefit Concert
*Social Media Best Practices
*Taxes

*Potential Happenings
*Present Happenings
*Ephemeral Happenings
*Future Happenings

So last year, I took a survey and would like to release it again. So whether or not you filled it out the lat time, if you have 5 min, there are 7 questions. I'd be curious to see what the makeup of the group is this year, and how it's grown over the year.

Thanks to DC PAL: Patricia Portillo for the message about this:

"Members of the Washington National Opera Chorus present a concert benefitting the AGMA Relief Fund for struggling artists. The program will feature music by American composers Samuel Barber, Norman Dello Joio, Undine Smith Moore and folk songs and spiritual arrangements by Betty Jackson King, Carol Barnett, James Erb, and Moses Hogan. Also on the program are choral selections from La Rondine, Hamlet, Fidelio and an excerpt from 'Til Victory is Won, by Mark Fax."

Social Media Best Practices:

In my experience, I humbly submit the following opinions:

FB Event Pages, even if it's only a two-night event, don't make a separate event page for each night (unless it's at different venues). Also if you have a Fan Page for your group, organization, or yourself, message me and let me know, if it's not listed among DC PAL's favorite pages:

Twitter - Recommended hashtag #dcarts, others include #dc #music #dance #theatre #dctheatre #dcdance #dcmusic and if you feel like representing, you're more than welcome to use #dcpal. Depending on other areas, definitely use #artsed & #artseducation & #artspolicy, & #artsadvocacy as appropriate.

And utilize lists. Check out DC PAL's lists for examples, or if you'd like to make sure your twitter account is listed appropriately.
Oh, also @mention whenever possible, as I am attempting to do when tweeting about happenings DC PALs are involved. In fact, if you do have an account, message me and let me know what it is so that I can be sure to follow you as well as mention you.

Taxes:

So, especially for all you relatively fresh out of higher education arts programs professionals (or even some of you seasoned ones), there are a number of Free Filing services available. I'm personally a fan of Turbo Tax: Freedom Edition. Unless otherwise stated, some tax preparation and e-file services are limited to those an AGI of $58,000 a year or less

That's it for now. Hoping, if anything, to really make the most efficient use of the social media tools you use. For example, if you're on Blogger, that's just one other way to get the bulletin, if you don't check FB that often, just keep in mind that it comes out a day or so fater. http://dcpalbulletins.blogspot.com/ (yes, this will be available on WP soon)

Until next time,
